Gobble Gobble!

Turkey Day is coming! I grew up in Hong Kong (minus a few years living in Los Angeles as a kid) and so my family never really celebrated Thanksgiving. This means no traveling during the high rush at the airport, yay!

Next Thursday-  I’m planning a “Bed Day” as in me + piles of pillows, books, magazines, laptop, tea, cheese, fruit etc. I can’t wait! I got the idea from Kimberly Wilson’s fabulous blog. I love her!

Since we’re on the theme, here are a couple of Design Your Own Thanksgiving themed pieces…though I think they’d be cute all year round!

New Limited Editions Tomorrow!

I’ve been running like a nutter (as a friend of mine would say) to get the updated  Design Your Own Necklace section up (landing really soon!), but I’ve been lucky enough to squeeze in some design play time to create a couple of new Limited Editions.

They’ll be on the site tomorrow. Until then, here’s a peek:

Here comes the bride…

I’m delighted to share these wedding photos that the lovely Mariana sent me.  Our earrings have a small supporting role in the celebration!

The pretty bride customized the Emma style with silver & mother of pearl for her bridesmaids. What a cute way to match the bride’s classic strand of pearls!

Save your Earrings!

This is a neat little hack I saw in the latest issue of Real Simple (Sep. 2010) to prevent your earrings from falling off your ears.

A more sturdy solution - You can buy packets (100 per pack) of little clear rubber backs in the beading section of crafts stores for a couple dollars. They look like this:

Or if you’re super lazy :),   you can email me and I’ll snail mail you a few pairs. Why? I’d hate for you to lose your bling and I love to send prepare and send snail mail (almost as much as I love to receive them!) Say hi: arwa [at] gemkitty.com.

Where in the world is Arrs?

I must say this blog is getting embarrassingly neglected and this must be remedied! :(  Lots of things the past weeks have kept me away:

  • We have two new Limited Editions necklaces up. Btw the gold/teal combo is almost sold out! If you have any thoughts of what you’d like to see next, I’d love to me know! Bracelets? Certain colors? Stones?

  • We started planning Design Your Own Necklace updates: new styles, gold choices, and a sleeker, faster interface! This should land by October. We’ll keep you posted along the way.
  • I took a long-planned vacation to DC and NY to catch up with old chums, including friends from high school, who were from Hong Kong!
  • Made some really cool connections with super smart peeps in the mass customization space i.e. fellow design your own companies. More to come about our new friends in the next post! This  I promise will be in the next couple of days and not 6 weeks from now! :)

Earrings, Earrings, Earrings

Time to reveal a secret! We’ve been quietly working on expanding our custom necklace offerings to include custom earrings.

We’ll launch at the end of the month with  five earring styles that you’ll be able to customize with hundreds of different gemstones.

Sara Gray of Sara Gray Photogragphy, recently did an earrings photoshoot with us

Cece in the Emma

Cecilia is wearing the Emma earring style customized with purple agate &amazonite:

Cecilia is a multi-tasking fashionista. Her packed calendar never ceases to amaze me. And she still finds time to blog on her site: Calculated Fashion.

Emily is wearing the Ava earring style customized with rhodonite.

Emily was such a trooper putting up with all our outfit changes. And she has the shiniest healthiest hair (yeah, I’m kinda jealous…). She works for lululemon and is super fit.

See the rest of the photos.

Sara was such a gem to work with. She made everything so easy for this high-strung stressball (yeah that would be me) and I am delighted with the photos.

And she’s multi-talented! She is a high demand wedding photographer in the Portland, OR and Seattle, WA area. And she does business portraits. In a nutshell,  need pretty photos, contact Sara.

xo,

Arrs
